Meritorious students will be eligible to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), and all students must satisfy academic criteria by the end of third year (or equivalent) in order to progress into the fourth year (or equivalent) of this course. Students who do not satisfy the criteria for progression to fourth year will graduate with a three-year psychology degree, the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology). The Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) may also be used as a pathway to the Bachelor of Psychology for students who do not meet the initial entry requirements, as the ATAR (or equivalent) for entry into the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) is lower. Career opportunities A psychology degree opens many doors. Completion of the course satisfies the minimum academic requirements for provisional registration as a psychologist. You could be a fully registered psychologist with a further two years of training and experience (see above). You could also explore related careers where psychological knowledge is highly prized, in areas such as: counselling social policy and research human resources market research social welfare health educational and correctional facilities. National statistics indicate earnings for psychologists are above average and employment opportunities for psychologists are expected to grow very strongly. Professional recognition The accrediting body for all psychology courses is the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). The peak professional body is the Australian Psychological Society (APS). The course is accredited with APAC as a four-year sequence of study. Successful completion of the course satisfies the minimum academic requirements for provisional registration as a psychologist. General registration requires a further two years of training and experience, comprising one of: two years of supervised work experience; completion of two years of study in an APAC-accredited postgraduate program; or one year of further university study, followed by one year of supervised work experience. Admission information Indicative ATAR 80.00 Applicants should note a high level of previous academic achievement is required for admission to this course. Criminal justice is at the forefront of how a society is shaped and functions. Described as the ways in which social control, deterring and mitigating crime and rehabilitation are developed and delivered in a society, criminal justice offers a range of diverse and exciting careers. CSU’s Bachelor of Criminal Justice equips you with the skills and knowledge to progress to the Associate Degree in Policing Practice (ADPP) and to be further considered for entry into the NSW Police Force, subject to professional suitability. It prepares you to work in diverse criminal justice fields, such as corrections, probation and parole, or work with refugees, criminal offenders, victims and their families. Alternatively, during your work placement experience, you may discover other careers in law enforcement and social justice. There is also the possibility of entering an academic career after the Bachelor of Criminal Justice, embarking upon law studies or undertaking a higher degree by research. Why study this course?
